For Administrators#
Guidelines#
B2INST registers instrument instances using PIDINST metadata and ePIC Handles. Records can contain metadata alone or include supporting files. Record visibility, file access, community membership, and publication review are configured separately.
This guide distinguishes B2INST service administration from administration inside a community. See the community guides for role-specific instructions, settings, and metadata extensions.
How to access the B2INST service#
B2INST is available from the following URL: https://b2inst.gwdg.de.
Communities#
B2INST enforces the grouping of instrument data publications and users through communities. Communities are easily identified on the landing pages of instrument data publications in B2INST which provide a link to the community landing page itself. This landing page provides an overview of the community, the latest publications and the community metadata schema.
Only B2INST service administrators can create communities. After creation, community Owners and Admins can maintain the profile, privileges, submission policy and information pages, while Managers can administer members and invitations. See Creating and managing a B2INST community for the complete illustrated workflow.
For responsibilities and role limits, see Community administrators, Managers, and Requesting a community and ownership.
Metadata schema#
A community can define additional fields on top of B2INST’s instrument metadata. Coordinate schema installation and changes with the service administrators. The schema extension guide documents the supported definitions and current validation and indexing limits; reviewers must also check the community’s requirements during curation.
Policies#
Community policies enable a community to limit the access for users and enforce workflows. Owners and Admins can change the policies exposed under the community’s Settings tab. Identifier changes and community deletion are restricted to Owners. Changes to community-specific metadata schemas, or other changes that are not available in the web interface, must be coordinated with the B2INST service administrators. Please contact EUDAT through the webform for this work.
See Community settings for the available options and current limitations affecting membership visibility and restricted-record access.
